GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP AND VOLUNTEERING PROGRAMME WITH SMEFUNDS
SMEFUNDS arranges international volunteer and fellowship
placements within the areas we work in pursuit of
alternative renewable energy advocacy, poverty reduction
through Adopt a Small business projects; increasing access
to alternative small business finance and Financial
Education.
Through our volunteering and fellowship programme, we aim to
raise international awareness of green energy through our
alternative renewable energy and Adopt a Small Business
advocacy in Africa by giving our volunteers and fellows the
opportunities to contribute to eradication of poverty.
Participants in our fellowship and volunteer programme come
from any country in the world.
We offer a tailor-made service, arranging individual,
long-term volunteer placements across Africa. We match the
skills of volunteers to the needs perceived in the local
area we work towards poverty reduction and sustainable
development.
Placements may cover the area of education, community
development, fundraising, renewable energy, technology
integration, project development and identification,
business support, training and more.
Application Requirements
Participants are advised to apply 2 months in
advance so that a well-structured fellowship can be
organised. You will need to complete an application form and
provide a CV. All this must be sent to us with a covering
letter explaining your interests in and expectations from
your work placement.
You are expected to meet all your living,
accommodation and travel expenses. After receiving these
materials, when necessary we may arrange an interview with
you on phone or in our Lagos office about your goals and
interests. Then we will begin working with our partners in
your chosen country, state or areas to find the right
fellowship or voluntary work for you. Typically, placement
is made within three through six months from the time the
completed application is received.
The duration of the work placement is from 1
week to 24 months any time throughout the year.
This
letter should include:

application and evidence that you can support yourself

service.

VOLUNTEER & FELLOW PROGRAMME AIMS:

To create and enhance awareness of
the linkages between sustainable development and
poverty alleviation;

Increase networking opportunities
between organizations and governments working
together to increase access to finance for small
businesses.

To allow interns and volunteers to be
equipped with the knowledge, values and skills that
may enable them to participate in global actions
towards solutions to Small business finance problems
and issues;

Promote and encourage a DIY approach
to achieving End Blackouts statement while using a
cost effective ways for creating clean, affordable
electricity for the poor and everyone.

To increase knowledge and
understanding of the major challenges and prospects
for Renewable energy and poverty reduction in
Africa;

To increase understanding how Lack of
electricity and access to small business finance is
affecting the poor in Africa;

To increase understand how
Government, Big businesses, organizations
continually improve and create supports for the BOP
citizens in Africa, as individuals and as part of
wider society, from local to global levels;

To develop a sense of concern for
promoting and sustaining entrepreneurship.

To increase understanding of the role
of communities in the promoting green Energy and
creating livelihood opportunities for the poor.
To
understand how people in sub-Saharan Africa depend more
on their innate power to create wealth as entrepreneurs,
embrace natural resource base for economic and social
need.
Benefits to Graduates and volunteers:
Every Volunteer and Interns will attain
valuable, hands-on international development work
experience within special location. The programme helps
them to understand the complexity, challenges, and
constraints with regard to Alternative Renewable Energy,
access to small business Finance issues and poverty
reduction initiatives in Africa countries. Fellows will
increase their exposures and experiences at a broad
range of new issues and deepen understanding in
principles with practices.
You will not only contribute to
socio-economic development of Africa, but will also
contribute to your personal and professional
development. You may work either within NGO and public
institutions' offices or in rural and urban communities
in supporting local projects
After successful completion of the
internship/volunteer placement, interns and volunteers
receive a certificate.
